Evan Hull IND RB
Colts' Evan Hull: Healthy and vying for backup role
7m agoHull (knee) appears set to compete with Trey Sermon for the backup role behind starter Jonathan Taylor this offseason, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Hull is back to full health after a knee injury limited him to just one appearance as a rookie in 2023, per Paul Bretl of USA Today. After Zack Moss was able to thrive as the backup to Taylor in 2023, fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on which of Hull and Sermon managers to show out better in training camp and preseason action. Sermon could have a leg up to begin the competition, but as Boyd notes, he's totaled just 78 carries in his career and isn't significantly more established than Hull.

Ben Skowronek LAR WR
Texans' Ben Skowronek: Houston swoops in for trade
39m agoThe Rams have agreed to trade Skowronek, who was slated to be waived Thursday, to the Texans, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Los Angeles informed Skowronek that he would hit waivers Thursday, but the Texans came calling before the transaction could become official. A 2021 seventh-round pick, Skowronek was mostly limited to special teams in 2023, but he racked up 376 receiving yards on 39 back in 2022, while demonstrating the versatility to line up across multiple formations. Now, Skowronek will face the challenge of competing with the likes of Robert Woods, John Metchie and Noah Brown (shoulder) for a depth role in Houston's crowded wide receiver corps.
-
Cedric Tillman CLE WR
Browns' Cedric Tillman: Could take step forward in Year 2
3h agoMary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer and Zac Jackson of The Athletic suggest that Tillman (concussion) is a candidate to take a step forward in his second season as a pro.
Per Cabot, the Browns figure to frequently employ Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore in three-receiver sets, but Tillman nonetheless should see his share of opportunities as the season progresses, especially if injuries hit the aforementioned trio. As a rookie, the 2023 third-round pick recorded a 21-224-0 line on 44 targets in 14 regular-season games, but if he's able to carve out steadier playing time in 2024, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder -- who missed Cleveland's wild-card loss to the Texans with a concussion -- could emerge as a solid complementary option alongside the team's top pass catchers. Also in the mix for snaps in the Browns' WR corps are 2022 third-rounder David Bell and 2024 fifth-rounder Jamari Thrash.

Ben Skowronek LAR WR
Ben Skowronek: Time up with Rams
3h agoThe Rams are slated to waive Skowronek, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Skowronek, a 2021 seventh-round pick, finished his third season with the Rams with a career-low 66 receiving yards across 17 appearances, while mostly contributing on special teams. The soon-to-be 27-year-old is versatile enough to line up in a variety of roles on offense, so it's a bit of a surprise to see him be cut before training camp. He figures to resurface in a depth role elsewhere in the league.
-
Allen Robinson PIT WR
Giants' Allen Robinson: Seeking rebound with Big Blue
6h agoRobinson signed a contract with the Giants on Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
Robinson was cut by the Steelers earlier this offseason in a move to save salary cap space, and he now gets an opportunity to reignite his career in New York, where there's a need for a big-bodied target for Daniel Jones (knee) while Darren Waller's future remains in flux. Malik Nabers, taken sixth overall in April's draft, figures to dominate the Giants' wide receiver opportunities out of the gate, while Darius Slayton (thumb) and Wan'Dale Robinson seem likely to also start in three-wide sets. Robinson racked up just 34 catches for 280 yards on 49 targets with Pittsburgh last season, despite suiting up for all 17 games, so he's no lock to beat out Jalin Hyatt for the No. 4 role this offseason.
-
Zach Davidson BUF TE
Bills' Zach Davidson: Battling for depth role
16h agoDavidson (undisclosed) is competing for one of the Bills' final roster spots at tight end this offseason, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
Davidson missed the entire 2023 campaign after the Bills placed him on injured reserve last June. The nature of the 25-year-old's injury was never disclosed, though he looks to be past the issue now that he's being viewed as a candidate for a depth role at tight end. Davidson's primary competition for slotting behind Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox should come from Tre' McKitty and Quintin Morris.
-
Jo Adell LAA RF
Angels' Jo Adell: Goes deep Wednesday
4m agoAdell went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a additional RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 victory versus the Pirates.
Adell put the Angels on the board with a solo shot to center field in the third inning, and he added a run-scoring single in the fifth. He finished with his first multi-hit game since April 27. With Mike Trout set to miss extended time due to knee surgery, Adell has become a near-everyday starter in the outfield. However, he's struggled so far this month, slashing .125/.185/.250 with seven strikeouts over seven games, though he does have three RBI and a pair of steals.
-
Gavin Williams CLE SP
Guardians' Gavin Williams: Shifted to 60-day IL
26m agoThe Guardians transferred Williams (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.
The move clears a spot on the team's 40-man roster for the addition of Darren McCaughan. Williams resumed a throwing program a week ago after a brief shutdown period following a setback with his right elbow. It was going to take him a while to get ramped back up anyway, though, so this transaction shouldn't alter his timetable.
-
Darren McCaughan MIA RP
Guardians' Darren McCaughan: Traded to Cleveland
31m agoThe Guardians acquired McCaughan from the Marlins in exchange for cash considerations.
McCaughan had been designated for assignment by the Marlins after giving up eight earned runs over 4.2 relief innings. The 28-year-old is capable of pitching as a starter or reliever and will give Cleveland swingman depth at Triple-A Columbus.
-
Kyle Freeland COL SP
Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Plays catch Wednesday
36m agoFreeland (elbow) played catch Thursday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
It's the first time the left-hander has done anything throwing since he landed on the 15-day injured list in mid-April with a left elbow strain. Freeland will continue with a throwing progression as tolerated but it's too soon to say when he might be ready to re-enter the Rockies' rotation.
-
Nick Burdi NYY RP
Yankees' Nick Burdi: Returning Friday
1h agoManager Aaron Boone said Thursday that Burdi (hip) will return from the injured list Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Burdi has been on the IL since April 19 due to right hip inflammation. He pitched in a rehab game at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday, striking out all three batters he faced in his lone inning of work. The 31-year-old reliever has yet to allow a run through 6.1 frames this season, and he will likely pitch in middle relief upon returning to the Yankees' bullpen.
-
Carlos Lagrange NYY SP
Yankees' Carlos Lagrange: On shelf with undisclosed injury
1h agoLagrange is on the Florida Complex League Yankees' 7-day injured list with an undisclosed injury.
A 6-foot-7 righty with a monster fastball, Lagrange logged a 4.97 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 63 strikeouts in 41.2 innings in the Florida Complex League last season. Given that he turns 21 later this month, Lagrange would ideally make his full-season debut at some point later this season, health permitting.
-
Patrick Beverley MIL PG
Bucks' Patrick Beverley: Suspended four games
1h agoThe NBA announced Thursday that Beverley has been suspended four games "for forcefully throwing a basketball multiple tames at spectators and an inappropriate interaction with a reporter during media availability" after Milwaukee's Game 6 loss to the Pacers.
The Bucks' Game 6 loss to Indiana in the first round eliminated them from the playoffs. Therefore, Beverley's suspension will be served in the first four games of the 2024-25 season. Beverley is an unrestricted free agent going into this offseason, so it is unclear which team he will be on when serving his suspension.
-
Jarrett Allen CLE C
Cavaliers' Jarrett Allen: Doesn't participate in shootaround
2h agoAllen (ribs), who is listed as questionable, did not participate in morning shootaround in advance of Thursday's Game 2 against the Celtics, Bobby Manning of CLNS Media reports.
Allen's rib injury has cost him four consecutive games, and it appears a fifth is on the horizon. We may not get official confirmation on the center's status until closer to tipoff, but his lack of participation in shootaround is a discouraging sign. If he remains out, Evan Mobley should continue serving as the Cavaliers' center while Max Strus and Isaac Okoro play the two forward spots.
-
Miles McBride NY PG
Knicks' Miles McBride: Passive performance Wednesday
14h agoMcBride amassed four points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and one assist across 20 minutes during Wednesday's 130-121 victory over the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
McBride managed just four points in the win, struggling to find any real rhythm on the offensive end. Although his role has been somewhat limited to this point, OG Anunoby (hamstring) going down could open up an interesting opportunity. Should Anunoby be forced to miss time, look for McBride to potentially slide into the starting lineup for Game 3.
-
Alec Burks NY PG
Knicks' Alec Burks: Cracks rotation Wednesday
14h agoBurks closed Wednesday's 130-121 victory over the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with zero points (0-1 FG) in one minute.
Burks dusted himself off Wednesday, leaving the bench for the first time this postseason. Jalen Brunson was forced to the locker room during the second quarter, affording one minute of playing time to Burks. Given Brunson was able to return to the game, it is unlikely we see Burks again anytime soon.
-
Isaiah Hartenstein NY C
Knicks' Isaiah Hartenstein: Flirts with triple-double in win
14h agoHartenstein contributed 14 points (5-7 FG, 4-4 FT), 12 rebounds, eight assists and one block over 39 minutes during Wednesday's 130-121 victory over the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Hartenstein continues to impress for the Knicks, falling two assists short of a triple-double. With Mitchell Robinson (ankle) likely out for the remainder of the postseason, Hartenstein should be in line for heavy minutes moving forward. It's been a breakout season for Hartenstein, one that should have him well-placed to receive a sizeable upgrade when it comes time to discuss his future contract.
-
Ben Sheppard IND SG
Pacers' Ben Sheppard: Drains three triples Wednesday
14h agoSheppard chipped in 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-4 3Pt) and one assist over 20 minutes during Wednesday's 130-121 loss to New York in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Sheppard continues to play meaningful minutes for the Pacers, connecting on three triples en route to 11 points. While the Pacers ended with six players logging double-digit scoring, it was still not enough to get over the hump in front of a vocal New York crowd. Sheppard should continue to serve as a three-point threat off the bench.
-
Jonathan Drouin COL LW
Avalanche's Jonathan Drouin: No timetable for return
1h agoDrouin is making progress in his recovery from a lower-body injury, but there's still no timetable for his return, Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette reports Thursday.
Drouin recorded 19 goals and 56 points in 79 regular-season outings in 2023-24. However, he hasn't been available in the playoffs due to the injury. When Drouin is healthy, he will probably serve in a top-six capacity.
-
Joel Kiviranta COL LW
Avalanche's Joel Kiviranta: Game-time call Thursday
1h agoKiviranta (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's Game 2 against Dallas, according to Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette.
Kiviranta has missed the Avalanche's past three contests due to the injury. He had three goals and nine points in 56 regular-season outings in 2023-24. Kiviranta has also registered an assist in three playoff appearances this year.
-
Brett Pesce CAR D
Hurricanes' Brett Pesce: Out indefinitely
2h agoPesce (lower body) has yet to resume skating and is out indefinitely as a result, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports Thursday.
Pesce didn't make the trip with the team to New York and could now be in danger of missing the remainder of the best-of-seven series with the Rangers. Without Pesce in the squad, Tony DeAngelo figures to see the biggest uptick in ice time, including minutes with the man advantage. Prior to getting hurt, Pesce was stuck in a 38-game goal drought during which he notched just seven helpers, so fantasy players shouldn't be expecting a ton of offensive output from the defenseman even once cleared to play.
-
Alexandar Georgiev COL G
Avalanche's Alexandar Georgiev: Between pipes against Stars
2h agoGeorgiev will tend the twine on the road in Game 2 against Dallas on Thursday, Jesse Montano of Guerilla Sports reports
Georgiev is riding a five-game winning streak during which he posted a 2.12 GAA and .921 save percentage. Even when the 28-year-old backstop stumbled in Game 1 of the first-round matchup with Winnipeg, coach Jared Bednar has stuck with Georgiev and likely would continue to do so if there is another stumble. As such, fantasy players shouldn't expect to see Justus Annunen anytime soon.
-
Spencer Stastney NSH D
Predators' Spencer Stastney: Assigned to AHL Milwaukee
2h agoStastney (upper body) was sent to AHL Milwaukee on Thursday.
Stasney missed the last three games of the Predators' first-round series loss to Vancouver due to an upper-body injury, but his demotion to the minors suggests he's now healthy. The 24-year-old defender picked up four points through 20 top-level appearances during the regular season.
-
Mason Marchment DAL LW
Stars' Mason Marchment: Ready to rock
3h agoMarchment (undisclosed) will return to the lineup for Thursday's Game 2 versus the Avalanche, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports.
Marchment will likely return to a middle-six role following his six-game absence. The 28-year-old winger racked up 22 goals and 53 points through 81 games during the regular season.
