19m agoThe Panthers released Cohen on Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
The 2017 fourth-round pick was an effective passing-down back and punt returner for three full seasons before suffering an ACL tear Week 3 of 2020. He hasn't played in a game since, with an Achilles' tear in May 2022 further setting him back. Cohen spent most of last season on Carolina's practice squad, where he dealt with a hamstring injury for nearly two months and never earned a promotion to the roster. He'll turn 29 this summer and still has plenty of time to find another team before training camp if he wants to continue pursuing an NFL career.

Gabe Davis JAC WRJaguars' Gabe Davis: Still working back from injury
42m agoCoach Doug Pederson said Friday that Davis (knee) is dealing an injury and hasn't been able to do much on-field work since signing with the Jaguars, Demetrius Harvey of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Pederson said Davis, who missed the playoffs last season due to a knee injury suffered Week 18 against the Dolphins, continues to recover from an injury from 2023. He then said the Jaguars' wide receiver picture will become clearer in OTAs. It doesn't sound like there's any real concern about Davis' availability, but fantasy managers would certainly prefer to hear he gets back on the field and starts establishing a rapport with Trevor Lawrence sooner than later. Even with both Calvin Ridley and Zay Jones no longer in Jacksonville, Christian Kirk and rookie first-round pick Brian Thomas represent significant competition for target volume.

Isaiah Williams 2005 WRLions' Isaiah Williams: Gets chance in Detroit
3h agoThe Lions signed Williams as an undrafted free agent Friday, Tim Twentyman of the team's official site reports.
Williams is undersized at 5-9, 179 pounds, but as Twentyman notes, he was productive at Illinois with over 200 catches 200 for 2,295 and 14 touchdowns over the last three seasons. He now gets an opportunity to compete for a depth role with Detroit.

Dawson Deaton CLE CDawson Deaton: Let go by Browns
11h agoDeaton (knee) was waived by the Browns with a failed physical designation Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Deaton suffered a torn ACL in August of 2022 and is apparently still recovering from the issue. He'll first aim to get healthy and then search for a new opportunity around the league.

Wagner signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2023 but went down with a season-ending injury late in training camp. The issue wasn't disclosed, but he's back at full strength heading into 2024.

5m agoBazardo made his season debut in Thursday's loss to the Twins, allowing an earned run on a hit and a walk over two innings. He struck out four.
Manager Scott Servais found the ideal low-leverage setting for Bazardo's first taste of game action after a long stint on the IL due to a right rotator cuff strain, deploying the right-hander in the fifth and sixth innings of a game in which the Mariners already faced an eight-run deficit. Bazardo located 22 of his 35 pitches for strikes during his pair of frames, with the one run he surrendered coming via a Manuel Margot groundout. Now apparently back to full health, Bazardo will likely often log middle-relief assignments akin to Thursday's moving forward.

Luke Raley SEA LFMariners' Luke Raley: Multi-hit effort in loss
9m agoRaley went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in a loss to the Twins on Thursday.
Raley provided the only meaningful offense for the Mariners in the 11-1 loss, driving in Mitch Haniger with a second-inning knock. Raley has picked it up nicely at the plate since late April, now having forged a .375 average and .923 OPS across the 26 plate appearances covering his last 10 games. However, his strikeout rate during that stretch is still a bloated 30.8 percent, an albatross on Raley's offensive profile that has been a constant presence throughout his time in the majors.

Oswald Peraza NYY 3BYankees' Oswald Peraza: Rehab moving to Double-A
27m agoThe Yankees transferred Peraza's (shoulder) rehab assignment from Single-A Tampa to Double-A Somerset on Friday.
Peraza went 2-for-5 with a homer, two walks and three runs in two games at Single-A and will now move his rehab to the Double-A level. The 23-year-old originally suffered the shoulder injury in late February and was shut down in early March, so he likely still needs a significant number of at-bats in the minors before being cleared to come off the injured list.

Nick Burdi NYY RPYankees' Nick Burdi: Activated from injured list
36m agoThe Yankees activated Burdi (hip) from the 15-day injured list Friday.
Burdi missed three weeks of action with right hip inflammation but is ready to go after striking out all three hitters he faced during his lone rehab appearance. The hard-throwing reliever hasn't allowed a run and has struck out eight in 6.1 innings with the Yankees this season, albeit with five walks.

2h agoBlack is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Reds in San Francisco.
Black was touched up for five earned runs on eight hits and three walks over 4.1 innings in his MLB debut versus the Phillies on Monday, but he'll get at least one more chance to prove he belongs in the San Francisco rotation. The matchup with a Reds offense that ranks in the bottom five of the majors this season with an 80 wRC+ is a far more favorable one than the potent Phillies lineup he faced Monday, and Black will also have the luxury of taking the hill in the pitcher-friendly confines of Oracle Park.

2h agoHoskins went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.
Hoskins increased Milwaukee's lead to three runs in the bottom of the first with a two-run shot off Sonny Gray, giving the first baseman his eighth home run of the season. He's also homered in back-to-back games now, though Hoskins is still batting just .154 for the month and hasn't recorded multiple hits since April 26 against the Yankees.

Williams was the Thunder's second-best scoring option behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, but his solid two-way contributions were not enough to lift Oklahoma City to a 2-0 series lead. Williams has been outstanding in the playoffs and has confirmed the improvements he evidenced during the regular season. Through six postseason appearances, he's averaging 20.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 49 percent from the field.

Josh Giddey OKC PGThunder's Josh Giddey: Struggles badly once again
30m agoGiddey closed Thursday's 119-110 loss to the Mavericks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals with eight points (3-6 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and two rebounds over 11 minutes.
Giddey's minutes continue to decrease with each passing game, and it wouldn't be surprising if he moves to a bench role ahead of Game 3 given how much he's struggled on both ends of the court. He delivered good numbers against the Pelicans, but in the two outings against Dallas, he's averaging 5.0 points while shooting 40 percent from the floor across 14 minutes.

31m agoGilgeous-Alexander had 33 points (13-24 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-6 FT), 12 rebounds, eight assists, two blocks and one steal across 41 minutes during Thursday's 119-110 loss to the Mavericks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Gilgeous-Alexander finished just two assists away from recording a triple-double, but his outstanding two-way play was not enough as the Thunder came up short in Game 2 of the series. The loss shouldn't take anything away from Gilgeous-Alexander's impact from a fantasy perspective. He's averaging 28.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game across six playoff contests.

32m agoHardaway posted 17 points (6-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), two rebounds and one assist over 19 minutes during Thursday's 119-110 win over Oklahoma City in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Hardaway stepped his game up off the bench and provided a scoring boost to the second unit, and his contributions proved to be much-needed as the Mavericks evened the series with a huge road win. Hardaway can go hot or cold in any given game, but he should remain an important cog of the Mavericks' rotation during this playoff run.

Kyrie Irving didn't have his best performance Thursday, but Washington stepped up in a game where the Mavericks needed someone to carry the offensive load alongside Luka Doncic. This was Washington's best game of the current playoff run, as it was his first double-double since April 7. Washington is averaging 13.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in the playoffs, and he's scored in double digits in all but one of his eight appearances to date.

35m agoDoncic provided 29 points (11-21 FG, 5-8 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, seven assists, one block and three steals over 41 minutes during Thursday's 119-110 victory over Oklahoma City in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Doncic had been struggling with his shot in recent games, but he bounced back admirably in this Game 2 victory, nailing five of his eight attempts from beyond the arc and returning to the regular scoring figures he'd been delivering throughout the entire playoff run. Doncic should play a key role in Game 3 of the series, scheduled for Saturday in Dallas.

Valtteri Puustinen PIT RWPenguins' Valtteri Puustinen: Secures two-year deal
28m agoPuustinen inked a two-year, $1.55 million contract with the Penguins on Friday.
Puustinen saw action in 52 games for Pittsburgh this year in which he generated five goals and 15 assists. With a new deal in hand, the 24-year-old winger should be in contention for a middle-six role heading into the 2024-25 campaign. If he can play regular minutes at the NHL level, Puustinen should be capable of challenging for the 30-point threshold next year.

Danton Heinen BOS CBruins' Danton Heinen: Remains out Friday

Heinen will be sidelined for his fifth consecutive contest due to his undisclosed injury. Prior to getting hurt, the 28-year-old winger was stuck in a seven-game goal drought during which he managed just one helper and a mere six shots. Once Heinen is given the all-clear, he should be in the mix to reclaim a spot on the third line, likely knocking Justin Brazeau from the lineup.

Peeke figures to replace Parker Wotherspoon on the third pairing, though Derek Forbort could also be in danger of being relegated to the press box. Considering the 26-year-old Peeke has managed just one point in his last 15 outings, fantasy players probably shouldn't expect much from him on the offensive end.

1h agoDewar will undergo offseason shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready for training camp, David Alter of The Hockey News reports Friday.
Dewar ended the season mired in a 14-game goal drought during which he recorded four assists, 14 shots and 26 hits while averaging 11:54 of ice time. Acquired by the Leafs at the trade deadline, Dewar will be a restricted free agent this summer and should be back for another year with the Leafs, likely still filling a bottom-six role.

1h agoWoll sustained a back injury in Game 6 against the Bruins which resulted in him missing Game 7 on May 4, ESPN's Kristen Shilton reports.
Woll was riding a two-game winning streak when he suffered his back injury, having forced the series to a Game 7. There is no indication that the 25-year-old backstop won't be ready for the start of training camp in the fall, which could see him challenging the likes of Ilya Samsonov for the starting gig heading into 2024-25.

Bobby McMann TOR CMaple Leafs' Bobby McMann: Dealing with knee problem
1h agoMcMann was sidelined for the last nine games of the season due to an MCL sprain, Terry Koshan of The Toronto Sun reports Friday.
McMann finished his rookie year having logged 56 games for the Leafs in which he notched 15 goals on 118 shots, nine assists and 117 hits while averaging 11:34 of ice time. The 27-year-old winger got plenty of looks on the first line with Auston Matthews this season and could be back in that role heading into 2024-25. With a full 82-game campaign, McMann should be capable of reaching the 20-goal threshold and pushing for the 40-point mark.
