Evan Hull IND RB
Colts' Evan Hull: Healthy and vying for backup role
1h agoHull (knee) appears set to compete with Trey Sermon for the backup role behind starter Jonathan Taylor this offseason, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Hull is back to full health after a knee injury limited him to just one appearance as a rookie in 2023, per Paul Bretl of USA Today. After Zack Moss was able to thrive as the backup to Taylor in 2023, fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on which of Hull and Sermon managers to show out better in training camp and preseason action. Sermon could have a leg up to begin the competition, but as Boyd notes, he's totaled just 78 carries in his career and isn't significantly more established than Hull.

Ben Skowronek LAR WR
Texans' Ben Skowronek: Houston swoops in for trade
2h agoThe Rams have agreed to trade Skowronek, who was slated to be waived Thursday, to the Texans, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Los Angeles informed Skowronek that he would hit waivers Thursday, but the Texans came calling before the transaction could become official. A 2021 seventh-round pick, Skowronek was mostly limited to special teams in 2023, but he racked up 376 receiving yards on 39 back in 2022, while demonstrating the versatility to line up across multiple formations. Now, Skowronek will face the challenge of competing with the likes of Robert Woods, John Metchie and Noah Brown (shoulder) for a depth role in Houston's crowded wide receiver corps.
-
Cedric Tillman CLE WR
Browns' Cedric Tillman: Could take step forward in Year 2
5h agoMary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer and Zac Jackson of The Athletic suggest that Tillman (concussion) is a candidate to take a step forward in his second season as a pro.
Per Cabot, the Browns figure to frequently employ Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore in three-receiver sets, but Tillman nonetheless should see his share of opportunities as the season progresses, especially if injuries hit the aforementioned trio. As a rookie, the 2023 third-round pick recorded a 21-224-0 line on 44 targets in 14 regular-season games, but if he's able to carve out steadier playing time in 2024, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder -- who missed Cleveland's wild-card loss to the Texans with a concussion -- could emerge as a solid complementary option alongside the team's top pass catchers. Also in the mix for snaps in the Browns' WR corps are 2022 third-rounder David Bell and 2024 fifth-rounder Jamari Thrash.

Ben Skowronek LAR WR
Ben Skowronek: Time up with Rams
5h agoThe Rams are slated to waive Skowronek, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
Skowronek, a 2021 seventh-round pick, finished his third season with the Rams with a career-low 66 receiving yards across 17 appearances, while mostly contributing on special teams. The soon-to-be 27-year-old is versatile enough to line up in a variety of roles on offense, so it's a bit of a surprise to see him be cut before training camp. He figures to resurface in a depth role elsewhere in the league.
-
Allen Robinson PIT WR
Giants' Allen Robinson: Seeking rebound with Big Blue
7h agoRobinson signed a contract with the Giants on Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
Robinson was cut by the Steelers earlier this offseason in a move to save salary cap space, and he now gets an opportunity to reignite his career in New York, where there's a need for a big-bodied target for Daniel Jones (knee) while Darren Waller's future remains in flux. Malik Nabers, taken sixth overall in April's draft, figures to dominate the Giants' wide receiver opportunities out of the gate, while Darius Slayton (thumb) and Wan'Dale Robinson seem likely to also start in three-wide sets. Robinson racked up just 34 catches for 280 yards on 49 targets with Pittsburgh last season, despite suiting up for all 17 games, so he's no lock to beat out Jalin Hyatt for the No. 4 role this offseason.
-
Zach Davidson BUF TE
Bills' Zach Davidson: Battling for depth role
17h agoDavidson (undisclosed) is competing for one of the Bills' final roster spots at tight end this offseason, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
Davidson missed the entire 2023 campaign after the Bills placed him on injured reserve last June. The nature of the 25-year-old's injury was never disclosed, though he looks to be past the issue now that he's being viewed as a candidate for a depth role at tight end. Davidson's primary competition for slotting behind Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox should come from Tre' McKitty and Quintin Morris.

Korey Lee CHW C
White Sox's Korey Lee: Gets Thursday off
2m agoLee isn't in the White Sox's lineup Thursday against the Guardians.
Lee will take a seat for the second game in a row Thursday despite recording a hit in three of his last four games. Martin Maldonado will start behind the plate instead and bat ninth.
-
Kelvin Caceres LAA RP
Angels' Kelvin Caceres: Placed on MLB 60-day IL
5m agoThe Angels recalled Caceres (lat) from Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday and placed him on the 60-day injured list.
Caceres had already been on the 60-day IL at Salt Lake due to a strained right lat, but his move will create room for Niko Goodrum, who was claimed off waivers from the Rays on Thursday. Caceres has yet to make an appearance on the mound this season, and he will likely return to Triple-A once he fully recovers.
-
Bryan Woo SEA SP
Mariners' Bryan Woo: Starting Friday
12m agoWoo (elbow) will start Friday's game against the Athletics, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.
Woo has been on the injured list since the beginning of the season due to right elbow inflammation, but he has now been given the green light to make his first appearance with the Mariners this season. The 24-year-old righty did not give up a run through 11.1 innings during his three rehab starts at Triple-A Tacoma, and he managed to strikeout 17 batters while walking none. Emerson Hancock is expected to be optioned to Tacoma once Woo is activated.
-
Robert Gasser MIL SP
Brewers' Robert Gasser: Debuting Friday
20m agoGasser will be promoted from Triple-A Nashville to start Friday's game against the Cardinals, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The Brewers were forced into a six-man rotation after Freddy Peralta was hit with a five-game suspension, and the team will now call upon one of its top pitching prospects to fill the open spot. The 24-year-old southpaw got off to a late start after a bone spur in his elbow sidelined him for the first several weeks of the season, and he has posted a 5.25 ERA and 1.50 WHIP alongside a 17:6 K:BB through 12 innings in Triple-A since returning. Gasser may be sent back to Nashville after making his MLB debut Friday, though a strong start could allow him to stay in Milwaukee, as the Brewers have struggled with rotation depth to begin the year.
-
Colby White TB RP
Yankees' Colby White: Claimed by Yankees
22m agoThe Yankees claimed White off waivers from the Rays on Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
White has had a rough 2024, posting a 17.61 ERA and 10:10 K:BB over 7.2 innings at Triple-A Durham. However, he's shown high-end relief potential before, particularly in 2021 before Tommy John surgery when he had a 104:15 K:BB in 62.1 innings. White will be assigned to Double-A Somerset.
-
Hunter Brown HOU SP
Astros' Hunter Brown: Could be available in relief
33m agoAstros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Brown could be available out of the bullpen for the next few days, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Brown last pitched on Sunday and had been on turn for a start Saturday in Detroit, but Cristian Javier (neck) is returning that day and Justin Verlander will move ahead of Brown to pitch Sunday on regular rest. Brown seemingly would be set up to make a start Monday versus the Athletics if he doesn't pitch in relief before then, but it doesn't appear that has been decided yet. Espada hasn't ruled out the possibility of using a six-man rotation for a while, which would leave room for both Brown an Spencer Arrighetti to keep making starts.
-
Patrick Beverley MIL PG
Bucks' Patrick Beverley: Suspended four games
2h agoThe NBA announced Thursday that Beverley has been suspended four games "for forcefully throwing a basketball multiple tames at spectators and an inappropriate interaction with a reporter during media availability" after Milwaukee's Game 6 loss to the Pacers.
The Bucks' Game 6 loss to Indiana in the first round eliminated them from the playoffs. Therefore, Beverley's suspension will be served in the first four games of the 2024-25 season. Beverley is an unrestricted free agent going into this offseason, so it is unclear which team he will be on when serving his suspension.
-
Jarrett Allen CLE C
Cavaliers' Jarrett Allen: Doesn't participate in shootaround
3h agoAllen (ribs), who is listed as questionable, did not participate in morning shootaround in advance of Thursday's Game 2 against the Celtics, Bobby Manning of CLNS Media reports.
Allen's rib injury has cost him four consecutive games, and it appears a fifth is on the horizon. We may not get official confirmation on the center's status until closer to tipoff, but his lack of participation in shootaround is a discouraging sign. If he remains out, Evan Mobley should continue serving as the Cavaliers' center while Max Strus and Isaac Okoro play the two forward spots.
-
Miles McBride NY PG
Knicks' Miles McBride: Passive performance Wednesday
16h agoMcBride amassed four points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and one assist across 20 minutes during Wednesday's 130-121 victory over the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
McBride managed just four points in the win, struggling to find any real rhythm on the offensive end. Although his role has been somewhat limited to this point, OG Anunoby (hamstring) going down could open up an interesting opportunity. Should Anunoby be forced to miss time, look for McBride to potentially slide into the starting lineup for Game 3.
-
Alec Burks NY PG
Knicks' Alec Burks: Cracks rotation Wednesday
16h agoBurks closed Wednesday's 130-121 victory over the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals with zero points (0-1 FG) in one minute.
Burks dusted himself off Wednesday, leaving the bench for the first time this postseason. Jalen Brunson was forced to the locker room during the second quarter, affording one minute of playing time to Burks. Given Brunson was able to return to the game, it is unlikely we see Burks again anytime soon.
-
Isaiah Hartenstein NY C
Knicks' Isaiah Hartenstein: Flirts with triple-double in win
16h agoHartenstein contributed 14 points (5-7 FG, 4-4 FT), 12 rebounds, eight assists and one block over 39 minutes during Wednesday's 130-121 victory over the Pacers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Hartenstein continues to impress for the Knicks, falling two assists short of a triple-double. With Mitchell Robinson (ankle) likely out for the remainder of the postseason, Hartenstein should be in line for heavy minutes moving forward. It's been a breakout season for Hartenstein, one that should have him well-placed to receive a sizeable upgrade when it comes time to discuss his future contract.
-
Ben Sheppard IND SG
Pacers' Ben Sheppard: Drains three triples Wednesday
16h agoSheppard chipped in 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-4 3Pt) and one assist over 20 minutes during Wednesday's 130-121 loss to New York in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Sheppard continues to play meaningful minutes for the Pacers, connecting on three triples en route to 11 points. While the Pacers ended with six players logging double-digit scoring, it was still not enough to get over the hump in front of a vocal New York crowd. Sheppard should continue to serve as a three-point threat off the bench.
-
Carson Soucy VAN D
Canucks' Carson Soucy: Gets two helpers in victory
1h agoSoucy collected two assists in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over Edmonton in Game 1.
The Canucks were down 4-1 after Zach Hyman scored at 13:11 of the second period, but Soucy helped out on the next two markers to get the comeback started. Although the 29-year-old Soucy was noteworthy offensively against the Oilers, that's a rare occurrence for him. He had just six points (two goals) in 40 regular-season contests in 2023-24, and his last multi-point effort came Nov. 2 when Vancouver earned a 10-1 victory over San Jose. He has three assists in seven playoff outings this year.
-
Leon Draisaitl EDM C
Oilers' Leon Draisaitl: Grabs two helpers
1h agoDraisaitl recorded a pair of assists in a 5-4 Game 1 loss to Vancouver on Wednesday. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, Draisaitl was dealing with cramps in the second period before returning in the third.
Draisaitl managed just 16:43 of ice time due to his cramping issue, his fewest minutes during a game in the postseason. Still, the world-class center has registered at least a point in all six playoff contests, racking up a combined five goals and seven helpers, including eight power-play points. At this point, there is no reason to think Draisaitl won't be ready for Game 2 on Friday since he was able to return for the third period.
-
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins EDM C
Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Picks up two assists in Game 1
1h agoNugent-Hopkins registered two assists in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Vancouver in Game 1.
Nugent-Hopkins earned his third multi-point showing in the span of four contests. He's up to a goal and eight points in six playoff appearances this year. Nugent-Hopkins should continue to serve in a top-six capacity and on the Oilers' first power-play unit. His position with the man advantage is of particular importance to his production -- four of his eight points in the postseason have been recorded on the power play, including one of his assists in the series opener.
-
Jonathan Drouin COL LW
Avalanche's Jonathan Drouin: No timetable for return
2h agoDrouin is making progress in his recovery from a lower-body injury, but there's still no timetable for his return, Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette reports Thursday.
Drouin recorded 19 goals and 56 points in 79 regular-season outings in 2023-24. However, he hasn't been available in the playoffs due to the injury. When Drouin is healthy, he will probably serve in a top-six capacity.
-
Joel Kiviranta COL LW
Avalanche's Joel Kiviranta: Game-time call Thursday
2h agoKiviranta (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's Game 2 against Dallas, according to Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette.
Kiviranta has missed the Avalanche's past three contests due to the injury. He had three goals and nine points in 56 regular-season outings in 2023-24. Kiviranta has also registered an assist in three playoff appearances this year.
-
Brett Pesce CAR D
Hurricanes' Brett Pesce: Out indefinitely
3h agoPesce (lower body) has yet to resume skating and is out indefinitely as a result, Chip Alexander of The Raleigh News & Observer reports Thursday.
Pesce didn't make the trip with the team to New York and could now be in danger of missing the remainder of the best-of-seven series with the Rangers. Without Pesce in the squad, Tony DeAngelo figures to see the biggest uptick in ice time, including minutes with the man advantage. Prior to getting hurt, Pesce was stuck in a 38-game goal drought during which he notched just seven helpers, so fantasy players shouldn't be expecting a ton of offensive output from the defenseman even once cleared to play.
