3h agoThe Lions are signing Davis to a contract after he attended rookie camp on a tryout basis, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Davis was waived by the Cardinals in late April after spending most of last year on the team's practice squad. He was active for one contest during the campaign but didn't see any snaps. The 25-year-old will get a shot to compete for a roster spot among a wide-receiver corps that is headed by Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.

Olumuyiwa Fashanu NYJ OTJets' Olumuyiwa Fashanu: Recovering from quad injury
3h agoFashanu strained his quadriceps while running the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and could miss some or all of OTAs due to the injury, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Rosenblatt described the injury as minor, so Fashanu should be recovered well before the start of the regular season, but the 11th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft may not be ready to join his new teammates at the start of offseason workouts. The offensive tackle out of Penn State has been working off to the side with trainers during the Jets' rookie minicamp.

Bud Dupree ATL OLBChargers' Bud Dupree: Set to join Chargers
21h agoDupree will sign a two-year contract with the Chargers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Dupree reportedly met with both the Falcons and Steelers recently in addition to the Chargers, and it appears that he'll end up with Los Angeles. The veteran edge rusher enjoyed a solid bounce-back campaign with Atlanta last season, recording 39 tackles (his most since 2019), including 6.5 sacks (his most since 2020). Dupree will add to an already formidable Chargers pass rush that also includes Joey Bosa (foot), Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu.

1d agoThe Panthers waived Parker with an undisclosed non-football injury Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
The details and severity of Parker's injury are unknown, other than the fact that it did not occur on the football field. The cornerback will now be available to be claimed off waivers should any other teams show interest.

No details have been released regarding more information on the severity of Williams' injury. He will presumably revert to Carolina's injured reserve assuming he clears waivers, which means his 2024 season will be done unless both parties can reach an injury settlement.

There is no word on the severity of Manning's injury. Assuming he clears waivers, the guard will subsequently revert to Carolina's injured reserve. From there, he would need to reach an injury settlement with the team at some point lest his 2024 season comes to a premature end.

4m agoThe Giants recalled Matos from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.
After Michael Conforto sustained a right hamstring strain in Saturday's game against the Reds, Matos was pulled from his outing at Triple-A Sacramento in case the former's injury was serious. With Conforto placed on the 10-day IL, Matos will be brought up to the majors to give the Giants depth at left field alongside Heliot Ramos. In Triple-A this season, Matos is slashing .221/.312/.361 with three home runs and 17 RBI over 141 plate appearances.

Lou Trivino NYY RPYankees' Lou Trivino: Hits snag in recovery process
9m agoYankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Trivino experienced inflammation in his surgically repaired right elbow in late April and is in the midst of a 3-to-4-week shutdown period, MLB.com reports. "He won't throw for a couple of more weeks, and then [will] start ramping up again," Boone said.
Trivino underwent Tommy John surgery May 3, 2023 and has hit his first snag in the rehab process, but the Yankees don't believe the setback is a major one. The right-hander's surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, performed imaging on Trivino, and nothing beyond inflammation was detected in his elbow. Assuming the multi-week rest period does its part and allows Trivino's inflammation to calm down, he should begin ramping up by the end of the month or the first week of June. Trivino is likely targeting a return from the 60-day injured list at some point around the All-Star break.

Scott Effross NYY RPYankees' Scott Effross: Close to facing hitters again
13m agoYankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Effross (back) is close to facing hitters again, MLB.com reports.
Effross' last appearance in affiliated ball came Oct. 3, 2022, with the right-handed reliever requiring Tommy John surgery later that month. Though he's fully healed from the elbow surgery, Effross experienced back discomfort last fall and ultimately required a microdiscectomy of his L-4 and L-5 vertabrae. Effross was held back in spring training while he completed his recovery from back surgery, but he seems to have resumed throwing bullpen sessions without issue and should soon take the mound against live hitters. The Yankees are hopeful that Effross will be ready to return from the 60-day injured list at some point during the summer.

Michael Conforto SF LFGiants' Michael Conforto: Lands on IL with hamstring strain
16m agoThe Giants placed Conforto on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to a right hamstring strain.
After Conforto left in the fourth inning of Saturday's win against the Reds, the hope was that the right hamstring strain was mild enough for the 31-year-old to be considered day-to-day. The MRI on Sunday revealed a more severe strain, and Conforto will be sidelined until at least May 22. In a corresponding move, the Giants recalled Luis Matos from Triple-A Sacremento.

J.T. Brubaker NYY SPYankees' JT Brubaker: Facing hitters again
25m agoBrubaker (elbow) threw live batting practice against DJ LeMahieu (foot) on Saturday at the Yankees' spring training facility in Tampa, MLB.com reports.
After he had been limited to throwing bullpen sessions over the past couple of months, Brubaker has now moved on to the next phase in his rehab from his April 12, 2023 Tommy John surgery: facing hitters. He'll likely throw multiple live BPs before embarking on an extended minor-league rehab assignment in the coming weeks. Brubaker is targeting a return from the 60-day injured list around the All-Star break and could be an option for the big-league rotation if the Yankees have an opening.

28m agoLowe (oblique) is in the lineup at second base for Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Lowe began his rehab assignment Tuesday and has gone 2-for-5 with three walks, one home run and four RBI over three games. He was pulled from Friday's game for precautionary reasons, but the 29-year-old is back in the lineup Sunday. Lowe appeared in eight games for the Rays before landing on the 10-day IL on April 12.

Phillips missed the Bulls' final 18 games with a right midfoot sprain, but he seems to be fully recovered. Phillips appeared in 40 games for Chicago as a rookie, averaging 2.2 points over 8.1 minutes.

Coach Tom Thibodeau said Sunday that Anunoby had been doing "pool work" and hasn't started running yet as he rehabs a left hamstring injury he sustained in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It seems as though Anunoby has a ways to go before returning to the hardwood, putting his status for the rest of the series in serious jeopardy.

Nesmith was deemed questionable ahead of Sunday's contest with a sore right shoulder. However, he'll suit up for the contest and should have no restrictions. Nesmith is averaging 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game during the series.

Suiting up for the first time since March 8 after needing two months to heal up from a sprained knee, Wade captured a rotation spot and helped provide the Cavaliers with some much-needed depth in the frontcourt. Though he acquitted himself well during his time on the court, Wade is unlikely to see his role grow substantially as the series rolls along, especially once center Jarrett Allen (ribs) is back in action.

8h agoStrus totaled six points (2-8 FG, 2-6 3Pt), five rebounds and two assists over 37 minutes during Saturday's 106-93 loss to the Celtics in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Strus continues to deliver nothing but mediocrity, scoring fewer than 15 points for the eighth time in the past nine games, all during the playoffs. If the Cavaliers have any chance of beating the Celtics, they are going to need Strus to rediscover his form from earlier in the season. Based on what we have seen during the postseason, that might be wishful thinking.

Marchand will miss at least one contest after being injured in Friday's 6-2 Game 3 loss to the Panthers. He has racked up three goals and 10 points in 10 outings this postseason. Marchand could be replaced in the lineup by Danton Heinen (undisclosed), who has missed the past five games.
